DESCRIPTION
Seeking Sanctuary is a captivating pitch package that seamlessly blends technology and creativity to create a 3D animated teaser trailer for a visually stunning television series.
The series follows the story of Blake, an exiled space rogue who embarks on a perilous journey onboard the Ark in search of the renowned Tarkiek egg. Along the way, she discovers that the once-thriving zoological tourist hotspot is now home to a ferocious being and a devious little robot.
This project allowed me to showcase my skills in technical art, storytelling, and character development, and gave me the opportunity to explore new and exciting ways to bring my creative vision to life.
THE TRAILER
UNREAL ENGINE CHALLENGE
In addition to Seeking Sanctuary, our team created an exciting prequel that we submitted as an entry in the Unreal Engine Virtual Production Challenge, held by Epic Games. This reputable challenge aims to promote and encourage the use of game engines for virtual production, a notion we were proud to help promote. As a team, we were excited to learn that this year Epic Games had extended the Australian-based challenge to New Zealand, and we jumped at the opportunity to showcase our skills and creativity by entering Seeking Sanctuary in the challenge. This experience was invaluable in developing our skills, and we highly appreciated the opportunity to take part in this challenge and showcase our talents.
Below is the our entry for the challenge, which serves as a prequel to Seeking Sanctuary.
Our team's growth and development is evident when comparing our team's entry for the Unreal Engine Virtual Production Challenge and our university major project. This challenge proved to be an invaluable experience for our major project, Seeking Sanctuary, as we learned about the creative processes involved in virtual production and the importance of each team member's role. Our final project showcased improved visuals and a more compelling narrative, highlighting the skills and knowledge gained from our earlier experience. Personally, I learned how to effectively manage time in a large team and navigate conflicts that arose, skills that will undoubtedly benefit me in my future endeavors.
MY ROLE
As a Technical Artist on this project, I played a key role in streamlining the process of bringing art into the engine and setting up each scene. Specifically, I developed a custom spline tool (pictured right) that enables efficient placement of assets in the environment, which you can see in my portfolio under Spline Tool.
Additionally, I contributed to the overall composition of the game in Unreal Engine, taking charge of tasks such as adding decals and integrating assets to bring our sci-fi world to life. I also wrote the script for the project, ensuring a cohesive and engaging storyline that complemented the gameplay.
